Command-Controlled Servo

Command-Controlled Servo

The Command- Controlled Servo is a module that integrates a DC motor, reduction gears, an angle sensor, a servo control circuit for position control, a load (current) sensor, a temperature sensor, and a serial communication circuit.
By communicating with external control equipment, it can perform position control, output adjustment, and providing sensor feedback.
The Command- Controlled Servo, developed based on servo technology for hobby radio control, provides functions such as trajectory generation and control based on specified target angles and movement times, adjustment of elastic characteristics via compliance functions, and limit functions to prevent damage using temperature and load sensors.
These features enable convenient use not only in robotics applications but also in other fields.

Features of the Command- Controlled Servo

Bidirectional serial communication

Bidirectional serial communication allows you to send instructions to the servo, such as changing the target angle or operational parameters, and retrieve data from the servo’s built-in sensors.
RS485, which offers excellent noise immunity, is used for serial communication. Using the USB-RS485 converter “RSC-U485,” you can control the servo via a PC’s USB port.

Command-Controlled system with a standardized packet format

Communication data for command-Controlled servos follows a standardized packet format, as shown below.
All Command-Controlled servos from Futaba Corporation can be operated using the same data format.

Header + ID + Flag + Address + Count + Length + Data + Checksum

Commands such as torque ON/OFF, angle direction, and changes to operating characteristics are determined by the Address.

Specific details and values are represented by the Data. Details and examples of packets are provided in the respective user manuals.

Compliance Control

Adjusting the output based on the difference between the target angle and the actual angle, the system can achieve smooth, spring-like motion.
The elasticity provided by the compliance function is electronically simulated and can be freely adjusted at any time through parameter settings.
Different characteristics can also be set for each direction of rotation. For example, the system can be configured to be soft when rotating clockwise and stiff when rotating counterclockwise.
